Jimmy Don Rodgers to go free

Many longtime cyclists know of Ken Kifer. He was a longtime participant in various online bicycling forums providing inspiration and patient, clear instruction for thousands. When he was killed by a habitial drunk driver in September, 2003, the cycling world was stunned.

The drunk driver -- Jimmy Don Rodgers of Scottsboro, Alabama -- was sentenced twenty years after pleading guilty to manslaughter, receiving a split sentence and ordered to serve for two years. According to the Alabama Department of Corrections website, Mr. Rodgers is scheduled to be released five days from now. He will have five years of supervised probation, during which time Rodgers will be on a court-ordered drug rehab program.

Update: Jimmy failed a drug test and is no longer eligible for parole.

Jimmy Don Rodgers is still in the Alabama pen as of March 5, 2009.

Thanks for the update.
It's a relief he's still in the pen. I don't understand why he was paroled after 2 years, especially since he's a danger to the public. Sadly, the penal codes are a joke in many states, not just Alabama.
It makes you want to circumvent the legal system to get justice.
Even if Mr. Rodgers serves his entire sentence, I doubt he'll reform himself.

Did he take a life? Do any of you have the facts? Did you know that there was a woman in that vehicle also that was driving? and she changed her story several times, just saying he has a family out there too & you shouldnt be so quick to judge or assume anything!
