2006 Ride the Rockies route and registration

The Denver Post announced that registration for the 2006 Ride the Rockies begins today, Sunday February 5. 2,000 participants will be chosen by lottery among the registrants. Registration deadline is February 24.

The 419-mile, 2006 Ride the Rockies will begin June 17 in southwest Colorado in Cortez. From there, riders will pass through Durango, Pagosa Springs, down to New Mexico to Chama, through Cumbres Pass at 10,022 feet and La Manga Pass at 10,230 feet to Alamosa. From Alamosa, cyclists ride north to Salida before ending their ride in CaƱon City. According to the Denver Post, 2006 marks the first time Ride the Rockies has gone outside of Colorado.

Chamas, New Mexico? In the past, ride organizers have typically routed cyclists through Wolf Creek Pass and US Highway 160 between Alamosa and Pagosa Springs. Swinging into New Mexico adds an interesting twist to the ride.
