Kauai bike plan
The Koloa-Poipu Area Circulation Plan was presented to the Kauai county council, where it was received positively. The only reason I mention it here is because a friend of mine works for the transportation planning firm that created this draft intermodal transportation plan. Terri is one of those *crazy* people-- you know, she and her daughters bike everywhere around Longmont, Colorado. She lives in a "New Urbanist" village on the edge of Longmont where her only gripe is that, well, it's on the edge of town and it's difficult to get to shopping and recreation from there.

I don't agree that Prospect is difficult to reach the city, in fact, it's a lot easier from there than from other places in town like the booming western suburbs, you know, west of the Target/Home Depot mess. Uggh.
Anyway, to safely leave Prospect, I'd just go down the sidewalk along Pike until I got to the tunnel, go underneath Pike, and just keep riding along Lefthand Creek. Go under Main, around the Rec. Center and keep going until you get to the new exit by the testing FireHouse, and voila, you are a few blocks from downtown without ever facing major traffic. Sure, it may be just a little out of the way, but it's a scenic trip and worth the extra five or ten minutes. As a bonus, you bypass the hill climb by the Post Office, which is harder for pulling a trailer with kids.
