Touring cyclist and cycling advocate Bill Bliss was killed last summer in southern Colorado after he was struck by a speeding motorist. The driver, off-duty CaƱon City police officer Doug Havens, was driving 77 mph around a curve when he struck Bliss.
Last Thursday, Haven was convicted of careless driving in a jury trial after Assistant District Attorney Cheyenne Ross built her case around Bliss’ advocacy for bicycling safety and expert accident reconstruction. Sentencing will occur in March. Read more in the Cañon City Daily Record.
